The Fort Myers woman who ran into a church on Easter Sunday, injuring 18 people, was cited for careless driving, reports news-press.com.

Marie Masson, 31, drove into the Second Haitian Baptist Church on Central Avenue in Fort Myers. Masson said the brakes failed on her 2006 Lexus as she pulled into the parking lot. Her car crashed through the wall, hitting several pews and trapping some people under the car. Parishioners lifted the car to free those trapped. Eighteen people were injured.

The vehicle was inspected following the crash and a certified mechanic found the brake system in working order. Masson was cited for careless driving based on the vehicle inspection, witness statements and speed estimations. She will appear in court for the citation because the incident involved serious injuries.
