There are far too many pedestrians hit in Southwest Florida. This is a location where there tends to be a larger number of people walking than in many other areas of the country. It is gorgeous weather so you find people out and about enjoying the great temperatures and sunshine.
The roadways are also crowded with vehicles. With more than half a million residents in the county and a huge influx of snowbirds, the roads get pretty busy.
In the most recent pedestrian accident, the driver fled the scene. The accident happened just after 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 at Cypress Lake Drive and Winkler Road in south Fort Myers. A 54-year-old woman was crossing the street and didn’t see a vehicle turning her direction. The dark colored pickup hit her and then took off.
